Important Information

Fleas rise to the top of your pet's coat as they die, so consider it a triumph if you start seeing more fleas at first, after treating your pet. If you’re still seeing fleas after application, it may be because your pet has picked up new fleas from the environment, which may include other pets, surfaces and outdoor areas. It may take up to 30 days to break the entire flea life cycle. Additionally, you should also treat sources of new fleas (i.e., carpet, yard, etc.) to ensure complete flea control.

About Advantage II for Dogs

Get the Advantage Over Fleas

Advantage II topical flea treatment and prevention for dogs kills fleas on your dog within 12 hours, and it continues to protect for 30 days. It’s easier to use than hard-to-swallow pills—simply apply the convenient drops once a month. Best of all, Advantage II is available without a prescription.

How Advantage II for Dogs Works

The active ingredients in Advantage II for Dogs (imidacloprid and pyriproxyfen) spread over the skin and hair coat. Fleas are killed through contact, so they don’t have to bite your dog to die. Do not use on cats.

Flea Treatment and Prevention

Advantage II doesn't just treat fleas––it breaks the flea lifecycle to prevent reinfestation.

Reliable Flea Protection

These flea drops kill adult fleas, flea larvae, flea eggs, and chewing lice.

Same-Day Effectiveness

Advantage II kills fleas on dogs within 12 hours, and it continues to prevent reinfestations for four weeks.

No Prescription Needed

You don’t have to go to the vet to get quality flea protection for your dog—simply buy and apply.

Fragrance-Free

This flea topical formula is fragrance-free and waterproof 24 hours after application.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Use Advantage II on My Dog?

How Do I Apply Advantage II?

I used to use Advantage. I'd like to try it again but now there is Advantage 2. What is the difference?

Is this safe to reapply initially after 14 days? And then monthly after fleas are no longer seen

Answer by ChewyNov 26, 2020
Under normal conditions the product is effective for a month. However, in case of severe flea infestation, retreatment may be necessary earlier than 4 weeks. Do not retreat more often than once every 7 days. After flea control is attained, return to a monthly retreatment schedule.

This brand works on my dog keeps the fleas off a little longer than a month. Now that being said I purchased some on eBay... didn't work as well... purchase more on eBay turns out it was water...yes water. No smell and no taste. Water ! So if you have experienced issues with advantage...The problem isn't the advantage brand the problem is you're getting knockouts that's not real Advantage. You absolutely MUST buy from a reputable place and I do recommend chewy. ADVANTAGE IS ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC.

Awesome Product for Fleas

This flea treatment is great! This is the first time I used a flea product and I will be back for more. I'm not sure what happened, but my girls were overwhelmed with fleas the day before Thanksgiving. Our weather has been very warm, humid, with plenty of rain which may have something to do with the flea problem. On Thanksgiving day, we sprayed them down with an apple cider vinegar, distilled white vinegar, and water mixture in order to give them some relief until my order of Advantage II Flea treatment was delivered. My homemade remedy worked immediately, but it is not long-lasting nor does it kill the larvae. When my Chewy order arrived, we applied the Advantage immediately and my girls have been flea-free since. Thank you Chewy, for the great prices and quick delivery.

This is the only product that has completely protected my cats from fleas and ticks. Yes, I said cats! We have 7 abs the cost of flea meds have been horrible. So I researched and this large dog formula is the same as the formula for cats except you get a lot more liquid for a similar price. Cats 3-9 pounds only need 3 ml. Each tube has 4 ounces of liquid. There are 29ml per ounce. So each tube has 116ml. An average car needs 3ml. So 116/3=38. There are 38 doses in each tube. There are 6 tubes. 6x38=228 (3ml) doses. I can treat all of my 7 cats for over a year with one order of advantage 2 for large dogs. My math could be a little off so don’t scold me. But I 100% know that I am saving hundreds of dollars doing it this way. I found out about this through a local humane society that treats all of their cats with this method. So if you have a lot of cats, do the research, do the math, don’t rely on me for information. I’m just telling you how we save money to protect our cats.

We have generally always used Frontline Gold for our dogs, in the battle to control fleas (3 dogs, indoor / outdoor lifestyle). We usually only use during seasonal periods as I'm not a proponent of pumping my dogs with drugs of any kind. But one of our dogs is 13 and I decided to try something new, that may be a little more gentle on his system, given some of his health conditions. Advantage II has actually created more problems. Over the past 2 months, we continue to find fleas on our dogs, my wife and I are getting bitten--where we used to have control over these disgusting little pests, it's now completely out of control. A literal infestation broke out as this Advantage was useless. For now, it's back to daily vacuuming and constant cleaning of dog bedding until we can get our boys back on Frontline and get this back under control. Moral of the story--if you have a med that is working, just stay on it. I do not recommend Advantage II!

I hate that the manufacturer states this cannot be used on cats and that the vials cannot be split between pets. But the ingredients are exactly the same and in the same proportion from small cat to x-lrg dog. Mostly what we are paying for is premeasured doses and packaging. How sad that some pets do without because the owners can't afford the price.

I like how the product comes in easy to apply tubes with a cap rather than just a plastic tube with a sharp edge. With several dogs, they sometimes wiggle around or run and hide when they see me treating the first dog. Being able to put the cap back until I can get them set up again is helpful. The ingredients break the flea egg cycle. One of my dogs is allergic to flea bites so the "kills on contact without being bit" feature is important. Flea free means happy dogs. Love that Chewy.com has fast, free shipping!

Frontline Plus stopped working. My dogs had fleas all the time. Advantage II started working within a couple of days. Too bad it is for fleas only, not ticks. I have to be very careful which topical I use on my dogs, because we also have cats. The cats sleep on the dog beds and cuddle with the dogs. Advantage II, once applied to the dogs, is safe around the cats.

It Works Great

I had not had to use any topical flea products in a couple of years on my dog. Actually, I do not like applying these kinds of things to him, unless absolutely necessary. Then it happened. I found fleas on him. I bathed him and put coconut oil mixed with some essential oils that are supposed to repel fleas. Usually this is enough, and all is well. Not this time! They kept coming back. Big,horrible biting fleas crawling on my precious pup. So, we got out the big guns and ordered Advantage III because it is a product that really works. Chewy ships so fast, so the wait would not be long. Within a day of applying, no more fleas! I have seen two recently, and one was dead and the other dying on him. I think he may be picking them up outside some where. He is more playful again. Not being used to fleas, I think having them was getting him down. Now he is a VERY happy dog again!
